Should back packs be able to stand up or is that not likely?

I am thinking about replacing my Gregory Paragon with either Evolved Supply Co Space Ranger or Durston Kakawa 50. I was 32lbs on the start of a 3 day trip for the Maroon bells 4 pass loop,, and 26 (1.5L less water) at end. Thoughts on moving away from traditional?
