Camping Hammocks – My Top Choices. The Hammocks I Use for Canoe Trips, Hiking and Bikepacking Trips.

In this video, I will be going through the pros and cons of the various hammocks that I use for canoe trips, backpacking, bushcraft camps and camping trips – from the basic models through to the top end sophisticated hammocks with full bug nets, storage and adjustable foot boxes and even a very clever lay-flat system.

I love hammock camping, the gentle sway, the higher vantage point, being off the cold damp ground and the feeling of being cradled as I drift off to sleep. In the summer, you can take full advantage of that shady breeze and in the winter you can nestle down into your cocoon using a top quilt and under quilt to keep snug. A camping solution for all year round – all you need is a couple of trees.

With so many options out there and massively varying price tags, it can be difficult to know what is good and what is not – nobody wants to feel ripped off, so hopefully, this video will help answer some questions and show you a few options that I use and can genuinely recommend.

I hope you enjoy the video, thanks for watching!

  1. Side sleeping is easy and quite nice in longer hammocks (10-11 ft) especially asym hammocks.

I highly recommend the Warbonnet Blackbird.

  2. I’ve got a no-name version of that first one. It cost me about $2 and has been amazing so far. For that price, at least. I’m a side sleeper but I crawl into a fetus position when sleeping so hammock sidesleeping has not been an issue at all, the compression is quite nice.

  3. I wonder what happens if you angle your knees inside the Amok? When your weight is too much on one side….
