Compression clothing is popular among runners. It is used for recovery by athletes and people who workout at the gym. There has been furious debate on the evidence of compression garment for recovery. Today we will discuss, the science behind compression garment, and how we can maximize its potential recovery benefit.

  1. Two things:

    First, compression garments should fit snug (but not tight). That means no loose fabric. Typically you purchase a size up. Although manufacturers differ greatly.

    The tops or pants may look like they were made to fit a kid, but compression wear has a great deal of stretch in them

    Second, make sure you reserve the time to put it on, and more important, take it out. Bunch the fabric, then wiggle it on/off slowly an inch at a time. In fact, some tops may require an assistant to help remove it without damaging it.

    You also need to make sure your skin is cool and dry. If its even the least bit moist, forget about removing garment until your skin is completely dry. Otherwise, you risk breaking the treads, and lowering compression function, and shortening the life of the garment.
