As an outdoor retailer (these are my opinions, not those of my company), that was perhaps one of the best YouTuber takes on this issue. It varies greatly for all sorts of reasons. Iβm a big guy, so I wear stiffer boots because if I go down thatβs a problem for anyone Iβm with. Others do well with trail runners. And Iβve sent the most dad-est of dad shoes (like if you know which shoe Iβm talking about, lol) all over the world to great success.
Dude you can’t make this up, on my YT front page I was recommended this and a space video, I opened both in new tabs and started watching this first, took me way to long to realize this was not the space video LMAO
Mid weight and mid height boots is the ANSWER. Can do almost everything.
I’d really like to move towards lower-weight hiking shoes, especially for longer trips. But I’ve rolled my ankles too many times, and I’m afraid of giving up the ankle support that boots give me.
Blasphemy! Blasphemy! Boots bad! Trail runners good! So says nearly every Youtube backpacking influencer.
Boots are heavy and they get wet and they don’t dry and they don’t let you “feel” the trail and and they are just bad!
Trail runners are light and cool and you look light and cool and only old guys wear boots!
